Cycling Events in Colombia
Why not combine your cycling holidays with a great cycling event?
The number of cycling events for hobby cyclists in Colombia has grown steadily in recent years. Below you will find some very special events for amateur athletes which can be combined or integrated perfectly into your cycling holidays with us. If you want to experience some pure race feeling, this is for you! Please take into account that the number of starting places is limited at all events, so let us know in time if you want to participate. If you wish we check the availability for you and take also care of the registration (there are additional costs).
Our cycling camps are available all year round. When scheduling you are largely unrestricted, which is why the participation in one of these events can be perfectly combined with our camps.
“BE A PRO FOR A DAY” is the motto of GFNY events. Of course, you should also prepare yourself like a pro! In our cycling camps we get you prepared for the big day, so that you will start in best shape.
This year’s edition of GFNY Colombia takes place in Guatavita in the Departamento of Cundinamarca, north-east of Bogotá. You can choose between two distances: 99 kilometers (Medio Fondo) and 138 kilometers (Gran Fondo). The KOM and the QOM will be determined at the “Cuchilla de Guasca” (Gran Fondo only). This beautiful climb is about 11 kilometers long with an average gradient of 6 percent and goes up to 3,365 meters.
The Gran Fondo La Ruta Colombia will start in 2020 in Santa Fe de Antioquia. Santa Fe was the capital of Antioquia until 1826 and is an architectural treasure with many well-preserved buildings from past eras. At tropical temperatures, the route leads through an impressively beautiful landscape and follows the Río Cauca.
La Ruta Colombia is the oldest Gran Fondo in Colombia. In 2020 the participants can choose between 4 distances (179 kilometers, 110 kilometers, 91 kilometers and 50 kilometers), so there should be something for everyone!
The Clásico Rutero includes three road competitions:
The mountain-time trial, the Reto El Escobero, will take place on July 5, 2020. The start is at the Parque de Envigado and then, after a very short warm up, the climb up the Loma del Escobero begins. The Escobero is a HC climb, with just under 9 kilometers of length, and some 900 meters of elevation gain! Longer passages with gradients of more than 18 %, make your legs feel heavy and the air quite thin! A real challenge (the Spanish word “reto” also means “challenge”).
On September 5 and 6, 2020 there will be two road races with various lengths for the different categories.
You should take note of this event in your race calender! The third edition of the Giro de Rigo will take place on November 1, 2020, this time in the department of Santander. You can choose between the “Reto Hormiga” (60 k and 1,517 meters of elevation gain) and the “Reto Cóndor” (115 k and 2,999 m elevation gain).
Rigoberto Urán’s events are professionally organized and they are intended to give participants the feeling of participating in a professional race. Of course, Rigo will accompany the race on the bike and as in previous years, various of Rigo’s friends from the WorldTour peloton will participate and give the event a special pro atmosphere.
