PREMIUM CYCLING CAMP IN COLOMBIAS BEST CYCLING REGION

Road Cycling Holidays

Training Camp 8 days

Highlights

  • Cycling camp in the training area of Rigoberto Urán & Co.
  • Lengths and difficulties of the routes adapted to your performance level
  • Fantastic climate all year round
  • Beautifull landscapes and typical villages
  • Medellín – one of the “coolest” cities in the world

The road cycling camps take place in the Oriente (East) of Medellín. Our hotel is situated at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters on a plateau surrounded by mountains. The Oriente (East) of Medellín is a true paradise for cyclists. Our rides during the cycling camp will take you through the beautiful landscape and the typical, colonial-style villages of Antioquia. Depending on the tour, temperature and vegetation changes as we climb up or descend the mountains, making cycling in this area a very special experience.

Medellín owes its reputation as the “City of Eternal Spring” to its unique climate. It is neither too cold nor too warm and there is hardly a day when the sun is not shining. Since the temperature remains constant throughout the year, you can wear short / short 365 days of the year!

We know the most beautiful routes and put together a varied program with tours for riders of all fitness levels. Depending on the fitness level of the participants, we ride between 65 and 180 km per day and climb between 800 and 3,700 m. When planning the weekly tour program, we take into account the performance level of each group, your personal training goals, as well as weather and road conditions. The tours described below are just an example and may change from week to week.

Due to the fantastic climate in Medellín and its surroundings we can offer our cycling camps all year round, so you are welcome to stay with us any time of the year!

The cycling camps start on Sundays, but there are no fixed arrival days. You can also join us during the week, so you have the greatest flexibility in your planning and can go for the best flight offers.

During your cycling camp with Elite Cycling Colombia, you will also get to know our host country off the common tourist tracks and get an insight into life in Colombia, which “normal” tourists don´t get. You will experience and discover a lot of exciting things and will fall in love with this great country.

If you want to ride on your own bike during the cycling camp, there is no problem. For a fee that may vary by airline and booking class, you can bring your bike as luggage on your flight to Colombia. Airport transfer to the hotel is on us and we are happy to help you with the assembly and disassembly of your bike. Of course, the necessary tools will also be provided by us. In case you prefer to avoid the risk of your bike getting damaged during transport, you can also rent one of our top-equipped rental bikes from STORCK, one of Germany’s leading brands for exclusive lightweight carbon frames and parts.

Holiday Schedule

Arrival

Individual flight to Medellin. We will welcome you at the airport and bring you to the hotel (the airport transfer is included in our prices). After checking in at the hotel, you will have time to rest and relax. Handover of rental bikes or assembly of your bike (we will help you and provide the necessary tools). In the evening we have dinner together and get to know each other.

Warm-up

On the first tour of our cycling camp we take it easy. We first cross the flat plateau of Llano Grande towards El Retiro, a typical Antioquian village with many well-preserved colonial-style houses. Then it gets a bit hilly and we climb our first short climb. After a quick descent we reach La Ceja. From there we continue towards San Antonio, where we take a break and try some delicious Buñuelos and Pandequesos. The last few kilometers are flat back to the hotel.

       65 km                                1.040 m elevation gain

Santa Elena

After a short warm-up we climb the pass to Santa Elena, followed by 20 km of rolling terrain in a beautiful mountain landscape until we get to the Alto de Las Palmas. From here we have a fantastic view of the Aburrá-valley and Medellín. From the Alto de Las Palmas we enjoy the beautiful descent to La Fé lake. Then we take a short break before heading to La Ceja. Now we climb again for some 6 km and then we make our way back to the hotel.

       83 km                                1.620 m elevation gain

Parque Arví

First, we have the opportunity to warm up on a good 15 km fairly flat track. Then we turn left and start our 7 km ascend to Parque Arví. On a small road that winds its way  through forest and meadow landscapes, it goes steadily uphill with 7 to 8 % until we arrive at Parque Arví, a beautiful national park. After a breather, we continue to enjoy the beautiful nature and follow the hilly route with some snappy climbs before it goes downhill and back to the hotel.

       93 km                                1.560 m elevation gain

Rest day

Recovery is just as important for a steady improvement in performance as the training itself. Therefore, the cycling camp also includes rest days. Today we recover and draw strength for the next days in the saddle. But the day will not be boring: We drive down to Medellín and take a city tour, where you will get to know the most important sights of the city.

Mesopotamia

First we ride towards La Ceja and we then turn to La Unión. The well-paved road meanders with a good manageable 6% up the mountain from where we have a great view of the plateau. After leaving behind the village of La Unión, we continue our ride to Mesopotamia through the hills which are covered in dense green. Here we rest for a moment, take a small snack and then head back home. At the end of the tour we still have a last climb, called El Enano, about two kilometers long.

       109 km                               1.710 m elevation gain

El Escobero

This is the last day of your cycling camp, and today’s tour may seem short to you. But you better do not underestimate it! After coping with the first pass of 10 km and an average gradient of 4%, we descend to Medellín. Through El Poblado we ride to Envigado and start our climb to El Escobero. The pass is legendary and the name alone makes many experienced cyclists shudder. On 9 km, it goes 900 m uphill. With maximum slopes of over 18%, flatter passages of 7% suddenly appear harmless! In the evening we will have a nice farewell dinner together.
